Paper mulberry is a middle-sized perennial plant commonly grown along damp areas such as riverbanks. The bark is used to produce paper. The extracts from the bark and the root of paper mulberry contain kazinol F, which acts as a tyrosinase enzyme inhibitor. This enzyme inhibits melanin creation. It is reported that kazinol F action is more potent than that of kojic acid, ascorbic acid, and hydroquinone. Moreover, it also has a free radical scavenging property. Therefore, paper mulberry extract is used as a treatment for freckles.
